Washington: Former President Donald Trump requested that the Supreme Court put a “quick and definitive halt” to efforts to exclude him from the 2016 race, threatening “chaos and bedlam.”
He declared that these actions “promise to unleash anarchy and bedlam, as they threaten to disenfranchise tens of millions of Americans.”
In his primary filing to the court prior to the oral arguments on February 8, Trump made this claim in light of his earlier request that the court reverse a shocking ruling from a Colorado court that could prevent him from running for office there due to his actions related to the violence at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Whether or not Trump will be present for the arguments against the three judges he selected to the court and the rest of the bench is still up in the air. Despite running for president in Iowa and New Hampshire, he has been appearing in civil cases for alleged business fraud and defamation in state and federal courts in New York.
The front-runner for the nomination, Donald Trump, has received support from the Republican National Committee, leaders of the GOP in Congress, attorneys general, secretaries of state, and other Republican officials nationwide through briefs they have filed.

Last month, the Colorado Supreme Court decided that a 14th Amendment provision from the Reconstruction era, which was meant to prevent federal officials who sided with the Confederacy from regaining power in the reconstructed federal government, barred Trump from running for office a second time and, consequently, from appearing on the state’s primary ballot.
Both that ruling and a related one in Maine were placed on hold while Trump’s appeal was being heard.
After giving the matter some thought, some states came to different decisions than Colorado and Maine: Democrat Shirley Weber, the secretary of state of California, declared that Trump will be on her state’s primary ballot. Both the Michigan and Minnesota supreme courts decided that Trump will continue to be on the ballots in both states.
One of Trump’s claims is that previous presidents are exempt from the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause. In the event that it does, Trump “did not participate in” anything that qualified as “insurrection,” according to a letter from his attorneys.
The record “amply establishes that President Trump clearly intended to—and did—aid or assist the insurrectionists’ shared illegal objective of blocking the peaceful transition of power in this nation,” according to the Colorado Supreme Court, which divided 4–3 on the question of whether Trump may be removed from office.
“He urged them to struggle to stop the 2020 presidential election from being certified. The majority said, “He personally took measures to try to halt the certification.” “And he and his allies were successful in stopping that process for several hours.”
