After a blazing first half, Minnesota’s veteran center cools down to record the best single-game scoring total in franchise history.
Minneapolis, Minnesota (MN) – Even though Karl-Anthony Towns scored a franchise-high 62 points, including 44 in the first half, the Charlotte Hornets ended the Minnesota Timberwolves’ 18-point lead and won 128-125 on Monday night.
In the fourth quarter, Towns shot just 2 out of 10 for just 4 points, as the Timberwolves were outscored 36 to 18. With Minnesota behind by one in the waning seconds of a drive to the hoop, he felt he had been fouled. Minnesota subsequently missed a 3-point shot on the last possession.
Towns remarked, “Having a night like that on a loss doesn’t feel very good or historic.”

For the Hornets, Miles Bridges scored 28 points, while Brandon Miller added 27. Towns was about to make a basket until Leaky Black tore the ball away from him, preserving the Hornets’ 10th straight season win.
With 3:21 left, P.J. Washington’s floater gave Charlotte a commanding 12-2-121 lead. The Hornets, who had lost seven of their previous eight games and had the third-worst record in the Eastern Conference going into Monday, saw LaMelo Ball add 18 points.
Towns finished 21 of 35 from the field, including 10 of 15 from three-point range, to take the lead in the Wolves’ 35-year history in scoring.
Fortunately, Towns disappeared towards the end, according to Bridges. With a 7-footer who can shoot the ball as well as he can, there aren’t many things you can do. .. It’s difficult for him. We wanted to slightly ruin his night because, although it’s a team game and you obviously want to win, it’s also evident that he’s having a terrific night. Although we had a tremendous night, KAT is a great player.
With 12 seconds remaining, the Wolves attempted an isolation look for Towns, but Black stopped his driving layup attempt and scored two free throws on the opposite end.
The 21st occasion in NBA history that a player has scored 60 or more points in a defeat was secured by Towns’ desperate 3-pointer in the closing seconds.
Towns declared, “There are no moral victories.” “In prior seasons, it was cool when we used to say that when we were 15–30 years old.”We are among the greatest teams in the NBA and now lead the Western Conference, so moral victories and statements like “great night, but just not a not a finish we wanted” are out of style.
“We must figure out how to prevail. The goal is to win the match. Remaining the top dog in the West is the goal. Protecting our home court is more crucial than anything else.
With regard to offensive rating, Charlotte, ranked 27th in the NBA, shot 58.1% from the field, a season high.
Coach Chris Finch of Minnesota commented, “It was an absolutely disgusting defense and immature basketball all through the game.”
LaMelo Ball recorded 18 points and 13 assists in his comeback game following a one-game layoff owing to a painful right ankle. After missing twenty games, he participated in four consecutive before missing Saturday’s 97-89 loss to Philadelphia for the Hornets.
