The Grammy Awards programme on February 4th has included U2, and the band won’t need to go from Las Vegas to perform.

The Recording Academy and U2’s social media accounts announced on Friday afternoon that the band will play from the magnificent Sphere theatre in Sin City, where “U2:UV Achtung Baby Live At Sphere,” their months-long residency, will come to an end on March 2.

At this time, U2 does not have a scheduled gig at Sphere that evening. It was not immediately clear if the remote Grammy performance would be pre-recorded or if a live crowd will be in attendance.

The only information provided was that there will be “a special awards ceremony,” which is still a mystery.

The group has a lengthy relationship with the Grammy Awards; to date, they have earned 22 awards from the Recording Academy.

Billy Joel, Olivia Rodrigo, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Travis Scott, Luke Combs, and Burna Boy are among the many artists already confirmed for the CBS programme. U2 will be performing in the Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles.

On February 4, the CBS telecast kicks off at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

It has been six years since U2 last appeared on the Grammy stage. Later, the full band played in a part shot on a boat in New York Harbour with the Statue of Liberty in the backdrop. The band’s Bono and U2 started the programme with a joint performance with Kendrick Lamar.

The band’s show at Sphere will be the venue’s first exposure on television or in any officially produced video material. It will be interesting to see how the Grammys’ cameras capture the interior’s complete sphericalness since, with a wrap-around screen that encircles the crowd and rises more than 350 feet high, no camera could get it all while it’s being used to its maximum potential.

Following U2’s abrupt departure, only one other musical act has been confirmed to play Sphere: Phish. The band’s four-night engagement from April 11–21 is expected to include an entirely different setlist every night. The Phish run’s tickets sold out right away. Additionally, U2’s 50-show run sold out with ease.

U2’s Sphere tour kicked off on September 29. According to Variety, the premiere night “lived up to the hyperbole.” See our review and an article on the production of the play and its opulent host location here.
