Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) introduced a measure this week to establish a government database that would store information on expectant individuals as a prelude to Mother’s Day.
When Britt, who was ridiculed in March for her remarks at President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, unveiled a “super cringe” video on Thursday promoting her new legislation—which contains many anti-abortion provisions—her detractors took notice.

“As a mother, I am aware that our children are the greatest blessing in life. In the video, Britt grinned as she promoted the MOMS Act, or the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed Act. “And I also understand the sorts of hurdles that women encounter during their pregnancy journeys and when raising their kids,” Britt said.
“To all of my fellow moms out there, my objective is to create a holistic culture of life and to provide you and your children the chance to prosper and to achieve your American aspirations,” she stated.

Britt described the MOMS Act as giving women “vital assistance,” but she omitted to say that the law would establish a government clearinghouse called Pregnancy.gov that would store “resources” regarding centres that oppose abortion, sometimes referred to as “crisis pregnancy centres.”
According to Axios, the measure would also offer money to groups that oppose abortion, and the website would contain information on adoption services but not abortion facilities.
The law also mentions that visitors to the website have the option to agree to the government using their contact information for purposes such as “doing outreach by phone or email” or sharing “other materials that would be beneficial.”

Together with Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), the bill’s introduction called for states to “extend child support responsibilities to the time period during pregnancy” upon a mother’s request, a move that Jezebel said amounted to treating embryos as children.
