Tragically, Boom Dandimite, a former member of the well-known Scare Dem Crew, died this morning in a US hospital. After a serious vehicle accident in April, the dancehall performer was recuperating when he had a significant setback, which ultimately resulted in his untimely death.
A trustworthy source claimed that Boom Dandimite had lately visited the US. But as he got off the plane, he passed out and started frothing at the mouth. Despite being sent to a local hospital right away, he tragically passed away this morning from his illness. According to reports, medical professionals in the US discovered blood clots, a number of difficulties, pneumonia, and that some of his health problems had gone untreated during his prior care in Jamaica.
The famed bakery was close to Half Way Tree Road when the vehicle tragedy happened in late April. While Boom Dandimite—real name Herman Stewart—remained hospitalised, Wilful Skilful, another rising dancehall performer, was also engaged in the incident and was taken home after being released from the hospital. He was released from Kingston Public Hospital a few days later.
When Wilful Skilful heard of his friend’s demise, he became quite upset. He described, with tears in his eyes, how Bounty Killer had told him that Boom had taken a plane to the States, only to get many phone calls with the heartbreaking news.
Boom Dandimite, who was a key member of the Scare Dem Crew in the 1990s, along with Nitty Kutchie, Harry Toddler, and Elephant Man, is deeply missed by the dancehall community. The group, who were connected to Bounty Killer, had singles like “Pure Gal” and “Many Many,” which helped them become very successful in the dancehall scene.
Boom Dandimite was slated to play as part of Boombox 90’s Badness roster at Reggae Sumfest on July 21. Other notable performers on the lineup were General B, Harry Toddler, Jigsy King, Mega Banton, Nitty Kutchie, Silver Cat, and Tony Curtis. Undoubtedly, the concert will seem empty after his demise as both fans and other performers honour his contributions to dancehall music.
