Eminem’s first song from his next album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce),” is called “Houdini.”

With the release of the first track off the album, “Houdini,” Eminem is giving his fans a preview of his upcoming 12th album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce),” which will be out this summer.

The opening line of “Houdini” is reminiscent to his 2002 hit song “Without Me,” with the lyrics “Guess who’s back, back again / Shady’s back, tell a buddy.” The song, which was produced by Eminem and his regular partner Luis Resto, mentions the shooting event involving Megan Thee Stallion in one of the verses and quotes Steve Miller Band’s “Abracadabra” in the chorus. The song’s music video pays a clear reference to “Without Me,” with Eminem entering a time portal that transports him back to the year the song was released. In the comic strip-style video, which is reminiscent of the “Without Me” video, two Eminems—one from 2002 and the other from the present—can be seen rapping along to “Houdini.” Among the many guest appearances in the film are 50 Cent, Pete Davidson, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Alchemist.

Since Slim Shady announced the album last month, there haven’t been many details available about “The Death of Slim Shady.” Longtime partner Dr. Dre disclosed to Jimmy Kimmel Live! in March that Eminem was working on a new record and had contributed to a number of the tracks that will be featured on it. He said that the day following his TV appearance, he was supposed to hear the CD for the first time.

With a Detroit Murder Files crime show teaser, Eminem revealed “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)” at the NFL Draft in April, implying that the project would mark the end of his long-standing alter identity. He published a fictitious obituary honoring Slim Shady in the Detroit Free Press a few weeks ago.

He revealed “Houdini” as the first single in an Instagram Reel he made earlier this week with magician David Blaine. He informed Blaine, “I’m going to make my career disappear as my last trick.”
