Bill Belichick, the legendary head coach of the New England Patriots, has announced that he will be leaving after 24 seasons as head coach.
The 71-year-old has been the head coach since 2000. In that time, he has finished third three times and won a record six Super Bowls.
However, they have only made it to the playoffs once since Tom Brady left in 2020, and on Sunday they took last place in the AFC East for the first time in 24 years.
Belichick indicated that he and Patriots owner Robert Kraft came to a mutual agreement to leave.

Belichick remarked, “This is a day of celebration and gratitude for me.”
“We came here with the intention of creating a championship football squad, and it far beyond my expectations.
“I will always have those great memories and will carry those for the rest of my life.”
“The man standing to my left brought the leadership and coaching skills that were needed to make this unprecedented success possible,” Kraft stated at a brief press conference.
“It is really difficult to part ways with him since he is the greatest coach of all time.
We both agreed that this action was necessary at the moment.
“What Bill achieved with us will never be replicated.”
