Washington, D.C. In an unusually candid assessment of the situation surrounding the surge in immigration, President Joe Biden stated on Friday that he does not think the border between the United States and Mexico is safe. He is also pushing Congress to approve “major measures” to solve border security.
After speaking to a gathering of mayors from both parties at the White House, Biden responded to a reporter’s question about how secure the border was with, “No, it’s not.” “I’ve been saying it for the past ten years, but I haven’t believed it. Please provide the money to me.
Biden is attempting to strike a compromise for a supplemental spending bill in Congress that would include border measures in order to win over Republicans to support additional funds to assist Ukraine defend itself against Russia. Biden has long refrained from referring to border migration as a crisis.

Biden stated that he anticipates a border agreement with Senate negotiators by the following week. However, a House deal is highly unlikely given that Speaker Mike Johnson expressed this week that he doesn’t think “now is the time for comprehensive immigration reform,” in response to pressure from conservative Republicans.
In his address to the mayors, Biden stated, “I think we need big policy changes, including adjustments in our asylum system to assure we have the authority we need to manage the border.” “I’m prepared to take action.”
“The speaker and House Republicans now have the question,” Biden said, making reference to Johnson. “Are they prepared to take action too? They need to decide if they want to use me as a political prop against the president or continuing using me as a tool to address problems. I’m prepared to address the issue. I am, truly. Massive changes. And I really do mean it.”
After his address, Biden was questioned about whether he thought his policies were to blame for the spike in immigration at the border.
“Not at all. “I’ve requested thousands more of everything from judges to… anyhow,” Biden remarked, shifting the subject.
