During the PGA Championship, the course and clubhouse renovations will be fully on exhibit.
LOUISVILLE, KY: For the first time since 2014, Valhalla will host a PGA Championship. The course’s fundamentals haven’t changed in all that time, but players and spectators will notice certain improvements.
The club house improvements will be the most noticeable.

The Valhalla Golf Club’s $3.8 million restoration, which included a major reconfiguration of the 15,000 square foot lobby, dining room, bar, locker rooms, and meeting space, was completed back in 2017.
According to seasoned staff, this is just what the course has needed. According to Valhalla General Manager Keith Reese, they wanted the new clubhouse to evoke the essence of what they see as a true Kentucky experience.
“When you go in, we wanted it to seem like ‘My Old Kentucky Home,’ like a farmhouse in Kentucky,” Reese stated.
“After speaking with the members, they were just astounded, and their response was so enthusiastic and upbeat. Thus, he said, “I think the ownership group, the architects, and the designers really knocked it out of the park and made it look amazing.
A significant update was released in 2021. According to Kyle Cramer, head golf professional at Valhalla, the course underwent a significant renovation that included the replacement of 1,313,500 square feet of Bentgrass on the fairways and tee boxes with brand-new Zeon Zoysia sod.

According to Cramer, the players will experience the course in a fresh way because of the new grass.
“Our daily goal is to construct a golf course that is quick, firm, and enjoyable. However, I believe that the players will be a little hesitant throughout tournament week since there will be a lot more ball rolling out than there was in 2014, according to Cramer.
On Monday, those players will take a first look at the new course. The tournament’s first round is scheduled for Thursday, while practice rounds continue through Wednesday.
