In a statement released on Friday, Steve Miller complimented Eminem for incorporating his band’s song “Abracadabra” into the rapper’s most recent hit, “Houdini.”

The Rock Hall inducted musician expressed his gratitude on social media following the release of The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace) track, saying he was “honoured” that Eminem choose his 1982 hit for the similarly magical tune.
“In all those lines of thought, music, and rhythm there are special artists who take it all in and create new original ideas from their own feelings and experiences,” Miller wrote in his letter to Eminem. “There is a long chain of stories, poetry, lyrics, and musical roots that have crossed cultures and generations inspiring the whole world for hundreds of years.” “You are among those eternal innovators creating something fresh atop an extensive body of work by pioneers in the field of music.”
Miller went on, “I have always tried to give credit where credit is due, appreciate the people who have had a significant effect on my life, honour royalties, and spread awareness of their work via my own work. When I was a young person attempting to support myself by performing music and producing recordings, I had no idea that life would be like this; all I knew was that I had to honour the art of those who came before me and fight for it against all the frauds, thieves, and liars.”
Numerous hip-hop artists have regularly sampled or incorporated parts of the Steve Miller Band’s music, most notably their songs “Take the Money and Run” and “Fly Like an Angel,” which have been used by the Beastie Boys, N.W.A., De La Soul, Biz Markie, and Nas, among others. Others have included their music into their songs.
