Tainan had its 1st Pokémon Go routes accessible on January 20, 2024

Taipei (CNA) Tainan’s official Pokémon Go routes will launch on Saturday, according to a Friday announcement made by Huang Wei-che, the mayor of the city.

In honor of the city’s fourth centenary, Huang announced during a press conference that Niantic, Inc., the creator of the well-known mobile game, had officially developed the routes.

The mayor of Tainan announced the creation of 30 routes that travel across nine districts and include over 200 tourism attractions geared at ardent Pokémon trainers.

Players are encouraged to take advantage of Tainan’s tourist attractions in addition to the standard route missions, which include gathering badges, meeting Mateo, the non-playable character in the game, to receive special gifts, and gathering Zygarde Cells to transform the special Pokémon Zygarde into a different form. This was stated by the city’s tourism administration.

Additionally, 500 Sababoy, the city’s fish-based mascot, icash 2.0 mementos have been produced by Tainan, Huang added. Explorers who finish all 30 of the city’s official Pokémon Go routes may redeem these keepsakes at the Anping Visitor Information Center.

The mayor also mentioned that players of the game’s Tainan route adventures will be entered into a lucky draw to win a dragon-zodiac lantern intended for the forthcoming Taiwan Lantern Festival, which is set to take place from February 3 to March 10, 2024.

Huang continued, “Niantic has also decided to launch the game’s distinctive “City Safari” event in the historic southern city from March 9–10, further celebrating Tainan’s 400th year.”

Trainers of Pokémon will get the chance to see the Gen VI Pokémon Skiddo, which is only available during the “City Safari” event, as well as the Gen V Pokémon Bouffalant, which is exclusive to the New York region in the United States.

For players who “Gotta Catch ‘Em All,” a variety of Pokémon will also reappear in uncommon shiny forms and distinctive outfits, while eggs gathered over the course of the two days will have a greater chance of hatching rare Pokémon like Deino.

Launched in June 2016, Pokémon Go is a smartphone augmented reality game that is based on the globally popular cartoon series Pokémon.

Niantic has continuously improved gaming mechanics and progressively upgraded the roster of 1,025 Pokémon in the game to keep users interested.

In order to further encourage players to explore diverse environments in different nations, Niantic or other players’ routes can be followed. The route function was added to Pokémon Go in July 2023.
